The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra release date has not been officially announced, but Samsung's next premium flagship is already becoming one of the most talked-about Android phones of 2027. Based on Samsung's recent Galaxy S launch history and the latest industry reporting, an early-2027 unveiling remains the most credible expectation, with January and February currently receiving the most attention.

There is considerably more to the story than the launch date. Recent Galaxy S27 Ultra rumours point towards a redesigned rear camera system, a significantly larger battery, possible changes to Samsung's long-running telephoto formula, next-generation flagship processors, updated camera processing and a new physical design.

For Canadians, there are additional questions. How much could the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra cost in Canada? Will Canada receive a Snapdragon-powered version? Will Samsung introduce native Qi2 magnetic charging? And will the built-in S Pen survive another generation?

Recent certification activity may slightly strengthen the case for January. Galaxy S27-series devices have reportedly begun appearing in China's 3C certification database earlier than the S26 generation did. Similar timing preceded the January 2025 unveiling of the Galaxy S25 family, although regulatory certification is not a launch announcement and cannot establish an exact date.

Looking at Samsung's actual Canadian release history explains why both January and February remain plausible.

Samsung Canada officially opened Galaxy S24 preorders on January 17, 2024 before retail availability on January 31. The Galaxy S25 series was unveiled on January 22, 2025 and widely available from February 7. Samsung then moved substantially later for the S26 generation, holding Galaxy Unpacked on February 25, 2026 before worldwide availability on March 11.

That history makes one thing clear: assuming Samsung always launches its Galaxy S flagships in January would be a mistake.

Announcement Date vs Preorder Date vs Release Date

These terms are often mixed together in early Galaxy coverage.

The announcement date is when Samsung formally introduces the phone, usually during Galaxy Unpacked.

The preorder period commonly begins immediately or shortly after Unpacked. Samsung has historically used this window for trade-in incentives, storage promotions and accessory bundles, although no Galaxy S27 Ultra promotions have been announced.

The general release date is when the device becomes widely available through Samsung, carriers and retailers.

For example, the S26 family was unveiled on February 25, 2026 but did not become generally available until March 11.

Current verdict: early 2027 remains the strongest broad expectation for the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra release date, with January or February plausible for Galaxy Unpacked. Samsung has not confirmed either month.

Will the Galaxy S27 Ultra Be Released in Canada?

A Canadian Galaxy S27 Ultra release is highly likely based on Samsung's established flagship strategy, but technically remains unconfirmed until Samsung announces the product.

Canada has consistently been a major launch market for recent Galaxy S generations.

The S23, S24, S25 and S26 Ultra models all received official Canadian distribution through Samsung.ca alongside Samsung Experience Stores, carriers and national retailers. Samsung's Canadian S24 announcement, for example, confirmed availability through Samsung Canada, Samsung Experience Stores and major carrier and retail partners.

There is therefore little reason at this stage to expect Samsung to exclude Canada from a Galaxy S27 Ultra launch.

What cannot yet be predicted reliably are Samsung Canada's launch offers.

Recent generations have included combinations of storage upgrades, trade-in credits, accessory discounts and preorder incentives. The Galaxy S26 launch also included several Canadian preorder offers, but those promotions tell us nothing definitive about what Samsung will offer with the S27 Ultra.

Canadian buyers should therefore treat any supposed S27 Ultra trade-in value, free storage upgrade or preorder gift circulating months ahead of Unpacked as speculative until Samsung Canada publishes the terms.

Those S26 Ultra prices come directly from Samsung Canada.

Could the S27 Ultra become more expensive?

Possibly.

There has already been speculation about a price increase, particularly as next-generation flagship processors, memory components, camera sensors and other hardware become more expensive. One report circulated a possible US starting price of US$1,499, but even the publication covering that claim cautioned readers about the source's limited track record. It should not be treated as a reliable Canadian pricing indication.

Canadian MSRP could also be influenced by exchange rates, component sourcing, storage costs and Samsung's regional pricing strategy.

For now, the safest conclusion is simple: CAD $1,899.99 is the current S26 Ultra 256GB baseline, not an announced S27 Ultra price.

Anyone budgeting for the S27 Ultra would be sensible to expect an Ultra-class Canadian price rather than counting on a reduction, but there is not enough verified evidence to publish a precise S27 Ultra Canadian MSRP.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Design Rumours

Design may be one of the most obvious generational changes.

Recent alleged CAD renders show Samsung potentially moving away from the familiar individually raised camera rings used across recent Galaxy flagships. Instead, the S27 Ultra could use a much wider raised camera platform across the upper rear of the handset.

Android Authority and 9to5Google have both covered CAD-based material suggesting such a redesign. The leaked measurements place the handset at approximately 163.76 × 78.25 × 7.97mm, although those dimensions remain unofficial.

That would make the phone only slightly larger than the S26 Ultra, which Samsung officially measures at 163.6 × 78.1 × 7.9mm and 214g.

The leaked design also continues to show an integrated S Pen slot.

That is significant because rumours earlier in development suggested Samsung could experiment with configurations that sacrificed the stylus to create more internal space for a larger battery. More recent design evidence does not support the idea that the retail S27 Ultra will necessarily lose the S Pen.

What Appears Plausible?

A wider rear camera platform now appears in several independent leak cycles, including renders and case-related material, which gives the general design direction more credibility than a single concept image.

The rest of the phone appears comparatively familiar: a large flat-front flagship, rounded corners, side-mounted volume and power controls, a centred display camera and integrated stylus storage.

What Remains Uncertain?

Final colours, materials, precise weight, glass specifications and camera-bump thickness remain unconfirmed.

CAD data is particularly useful to case manufacturers because it can reveal dimensions and component placement months before launch, but it still does not guarantee that every measurement or cosmetic detail will match production hardware.

That is also why shoppers should be cautious with extremely early accessories claiming guaranteed Galaxy S27 Ultra fitment before Samsung finalizes the device.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Display: What Could Change?

Samsung has not revealed the Galaxy S27 Ultra display, but most current rumours point towards another screen in the 6.9-inch class.

That would match the official 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel on the S26 Ultra. Samsung's current model also uses an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate and includes its built-in Privacy Display feature.

For the S27 Ultra, reports have discussed a newer Samsung Display material generation sometimes referred to as an M16 OLED panel. If accurate, the more meaningful improvements may involve efficiency, brightness and panel longevity rather than a dramatic increase in physical screen size.

The S27 Ultra is also widely expected to remain in the premium LTPO/120Hz class.

That means refresh rate can dynamically adjust according to what is happening on the screen, reducing unnecessary power use when displaying static content while still providing fluid scrolling and gaming.

Another question is whether Samsung will retain or improve the S26 Ultra's Privacy Display.

Because Privacy Display is already a real feature on Samsung's current Ultra, its continuation would be less surprising than an entirely new display technology. However, Samsung has not announced an S27-specific version, so claims about improved privacy angles or brightness should remain labelled as expectations rather than specifications.

The practical improvements to watch are therefore not simply resolution figures. Efficiency, outdoor visibility, anti-reflective performance, colour accuracy, bezel size and power consumption could matter more in everyday use.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Camera Rumours

Camera hardware is currently one of the most fluid areas of the Galaxy S27 Ultra rumour cycle.

The strongest recurring theme is that Samsung may reduce the number of rear cameras from four to three.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra officially uses a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, 50MP telephoto and an additional telephoto camera.

Multiple 2026 reports now suggest that the dedicated 3x telephoto could disappear on the S27 Ultra. 9to5Google reported in August that Samsung was planning a three-camera setup comprising a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide and 50MP 5x telephoto.

A September update from Android Authority also pushed back against a separate rumour claiming Samsung might replace its 5x system with a new 4x camera. The newer information instead indicates that the 50MP 5x camera could remain, potentially as the phone's only dedicated telephoto camera.

A New 200MP Main Camera?

A 200MP resolution alone would not be new — the S26 Ultra already uses 200MP.

The more interesting rumour is that Samsung could introduce a newer generation of its 200MP sensor or make optical improvements around it.

Earlier reports also discussed variable aperture, although evidence for that feature remains less settled than the basic camera configuration.

A genuinely larger or more capable 200MP sensor could improve dynamic range, low-light performance and natural background separation even if the headline megapixel number remains unchanged.

50MP Ultrawide Camera

Recent leaks have also linked the S27 Ultra with a new 50MP ultrawide, including reports pointing to Sony's IMX855 sensor. A July leak additionally suggested the S27 Ultra and rumoured S27 Pro could share this upgraded ultrawide hardware.

For normal users, improved ultrawide hardware could matter for landscapes, architecture, group photographs and close-range macro-style shooting.

What Happens If the 3x Camera Disappears?

Dropping the 3x camera would sound like a downgrade on a specification sheet, but the real effect depends on how Samsung handles the focal-length gap.

A high-resolution main sensor can digitally crop into the image for intermediate zoom levels. Computational photography can then combine sensor data, sharpening and multi-frame processing to create a usable result.

That does not automatically reproduce the optical characteristics of a dedicated telephoto lens, though.

The 3x range is useful for portraits, pets, food photography and subjects that are too far for the main camera but too close for 5x. If Samsung removes that lens, the quality of its sensor crop and image processing will become particularly important.

Front Camera and Video

Another increasingly consistent rumour concerns a 16MP autofocus front camera, which would be an upgrade from the S26 Ultra's official 12MP selfie camera.

Recent reports also suggest Samsung may revise its image-processing pipeline for warmer, more natural colour and wider dynamic range while continuing professional video tools such as Samsung Log and APV.

Android Authority reported on September 17 that updated Log and APV processing could improve dynamic range without necessarily increasing the maximum video-resolution headline beyond capabilities already seen in recent Ultra models.

SamMobile has similarly reported rumours of warmer photo rendering, updated processing and a three-camera combination of 200MP main, 50MP ultrawide and 50MP 5x telephoto hardware.

These processing changes could end up mattering more than adding another huge megapixel number.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Processor and Performance

The processor story is unusually complicated this year.

The most obvious candidate is Qualcomm's next flagship Snapdragon platform, currently referred to in leaks as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro or a related Galaxy-customized version.

However, there is also growing evidence that Samsung could use its own Exynos 2700 more widely across the Galaxy S27 family.

Android Authority reported in September that Samsung may be testing S27 Ultra configurations with Exynos 2700 in some markets. A separate leak offered details suggesting a powerful new CPU configuration, Xclipse 970 graphics and a substantially upgraded NPU focused on AI workloads.

This does not mean Canadian units will use Exynos.

In fact, Samsung Canada's Galaxy S26 Ultra is officially powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.

There are also conflicting reports suggesting Samsung may have successfully negotiated Qualcomm pricing and could continue using Snapdragon on the Ultra.

Until regional model numbers or Samsung documentation appear, the Canadian S27 Ultra chipset should therefore be treated as unknown.

Regardless of branding, processor improvements are likely to focus on four areas: CPU speed, gaming graphics, on-device AI and efficiency.

AI performance is becoming particularly important as Galaxy software increasingly performs image generation, language processing, summarization and personal-assistant tasks locally rather than sending every workload to cloud servers.

Cooling will matter too.

Peak benchmark scores can make attractive headlines, but sustained performance under gaming, camera processing or AI workloads depends heavily on heat management and software tuning. Early prototype benchmark leaks should never be treated as a guarantee of final retail performance.

Galaxy S27 Ultra RAM and Storage

Samsung currently sells the Galaxy S26 Ultra in Canada with:

Similar capacities would therefore be reasonable for an S27 Ultra, but Samsung has not confirmed its configurations.

Earlier rumours suggested the new phone could adopt LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage, giving the handset significantly faster memory bandwidth and storage performance.

More recent reports have complicated that picture.

SamMobile reported in July that limited availability of next-generation components could prevent Samsung from using LPDDR6 and UFS 5.0 in the mainstream S27 Ultra.

Yet newer September reporting indicates Samsung is testing LPDDR5X parts for some Galaxy S27 devices while leaving open the possibility that higher-end models could still receive LPDDR6.

In practical terms, most users would notice storage-generation improvements primarily during large file transfers, application loading, high-resolution video work and heavier AI workloads.

RAM bandwidth may matter increasingly as on-device generative AI becomes more demanding.

For everyday messaging, browsing and photography, however, software optimization and the amount of available RAM can matter just as much as whether the memory standard has a newer name.

There is no credible indication that Samsung plans to restore microSD expansion to the S27 Ultra.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Battery and Charging

Battery information has changed substantially over the course of the S27 Ultra rumour cycle.

Early claims ranged from modest increases to highly ambitious 6,000mAh and even 7,000mAh prototypes.

The most credible recent evidence is considerably clearer.

A September regulatory leak points to a rated battery capacity of approximately 5,534mAh, which could translate into an advertised typical capacity of roughly 5,700mAh. The same regulatory information points towards 60W wired charging.

That would represent a meaningful increase over the Galaxy S26 Ultra's official 5,000mAh typical battery.

A rise from 5,000mAh to around 5,700mAh would be roughly a 14% capacity increase before considering processor or display efficiency improvements.

That could be particularly significant because Samsung's Ultra flagships have remained around the 5,000mAh class for several generations.

What About the 7,000mAh Rumour?

Reports suggest Samsung may have experimented with larger prototypes, including a 7,000mAh configuration, but later information indicates those versions were not the direction selected for the expected retail device.

That distinction matters.

Companies regularly test multiple prototypes. A prototype existing inside a development program does not mean consumers will ever be able to buy it.

Silicon-Carbon Battery Technology

Several reports have linked the S27 generation to silicon-carbon battery chemistry.

This technology can allow manufacturers to increase energy density without expanding the physical cell by the same proportion. That makes it attractive for modern flagship phones, where internal space is already occupied by cameras, cooling systems, wireless charging hardware and, in the Ultra's case, the S Pen.

Samsung has not formally announced a silicon-carbon S27 Ultra battery, but the reported capacity increase makes the rumour especially interesting.

The final battery-life story will still depend on more than capacity.

Display efficiency, modem behaviour, processor architecture, AI activity, background apps and Samsung's software tuning can all influence whether a 5,700mAh phone actually lasts 14% longer than a 5,000mAh model.

Could the Galaxy S27 Ultra Finally Get Built-In Qi2 Magnets?

This is one of the more confusing S27 Ultra rumours.

Qi2 is a wireless charging standard designed around more precise magnetic alignment. With magnets built into the device or an appropriate accessory system, the phone can align correctly with compatible chargers and attach to magnetic wallets, stands, power banks and car mounts.

The current Galaxy ecosystem already supports magnetic accessories largely through Qi2 Ready cases rather than built-in phone magnets. 9to5Google noted in July that Samsung's recent Galaxy hardware continued to rely on magnetic cases rather than implementing native magnetic arrays.

Early S27 Ultra renders created fresh speculation because one leaked rear design appeared to show a circular internal area that could potentially accommodate magnetic charging hardware.

But another later report claimed the S27 Ultra might still omit integrated magnets.

In other words, native Qi2 magnets are not confirmed.

From an accessory perspective, that distinction is important.

A phone with native magnets can work directly with compatible magnetic chargers and stands. A Qi2 Ready design may instead depend on a correctly engineered case to provide magnetic alignment.

Canadian buyers interested in car mounts, magnetic wallets, battery packs or charging stands should therefore wait for Samsung's final specification and choose a protective case designed around whatever Qi2 implementation the retail S27 Ultra actually uses.

S Pen: Is Samsung Keeping It?

Current evidence leans towards yes, although Samsung has not formally announced the S27 Ultra.

Earlier development rumours suggested Samsung had explored significant S Pen changes and thinner digitizer solutions. Android Authority reported in March that Samsung had considered a major redesign but appeared not to be proceeding with that change for the S27 Ultra.

More recent leaked CAD imagery continues to show an S Pen slot in the familiar lower portion of the handset.

That makes the S Pen's continued presence more plausible than the earlier idea that Samsung would remove it to create room for an enormous battery.

For Ultra buyers, the stylus remains useful for handwritten notes, document annotation, precise photo editing, sketches, selections and productivity.

What should not be assumed is the return of every historical Bluetooth or remote-control S Pen feature. Physical stylus support and individual software functions are separate questions.

Software: Android 17, One UI and Galaxy AI

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to arrive during the Android 17 generation, and evidence of Samsung's next major One UI branch has already appeared.

Android Authority reported in August that a One UI 9.5 test build associated with the Galaxy S27 Ultra had appeared on Samsung's test servers.

That is meaningful evidence that software development is underway, but it does not tell us the final feature list.

Samsung is likely to continue pushing Galaxy AI, particularly on-device processing, contextual assistance, image editing, translation and productivity. Exactly which functions will be exclusive to the S27 series is unknown.

The S26 generation already emphasizes a more proactive Galaxy AI experience, so the S27 Ultra is likely to build on an existing software direction rather than introduce AI from scratch.

Samsung has also established long software-support commitments on recent premium Galaxy phones, making long-term OS and security updates a reasonable expectation for the S27 Ultra. The exact S27 policy should still be confirmed at launch rather than assumed.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Security and Polar ID Rumours

Polar ID is a good example of why rumours need to be updated as new evidence arrives.

Early reports claimed Samsung test firmware contained references to Polar ID, a facial-authentication concept using polarization sensing and specialized optics. In theory, technology of this type could analyse characteristics of a person's face without requiring a large Face ID-style sensor cutout.

That generated speculation that the Galaxy S27 Ultra might receive more advanced hardware-based face authentication.

More recent information has pushed back strongly on that idea.

A September report says Samsung's earlier work with Metalenz-related technology may have been experimental research within its semiconductor operations rather than evidence of a feature approved for an S27 Ultra retail product. The latest claim suggests Samsung does not currently plan to include Polar ID hardware in the S27 Ultra.

Therefore, Polar ID should now be treated as a low-confidence or increasingly unlikely S27 Ultra feature, not an expected specification.

The safer expectation is continued use of Samsung's ultrasonic in-display fingerprint technology alongside conventional camera-based face unlock unless stronger evidence emerges.

Connectivity and Other Hardware Features

As Samsung's top conventional flagship, the Galaxy S27 Ultra should retain the connectivity expected from an Ultra device.

Current expectations include 5G, Wi-Fi 7-class connectivity, Bluetooth, NFC, Ultra Wideband, USB-C and eSIM support in appropriate regions.

SamMobile's current S27 Ultra reporting also anticipates Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB and NFC, although these remain expected rather than officially published S27 specifications.

Samsung DeX is also likely to remain relevant for users who connect their Galaxy phone to larger displays and productivity environments.

Water and dust resistance are similarly sensible expectations for Samsung's highest-end Galaxy S phone, but the final IP rating should not be labelled official before Samsung's launch documentation appears.

Satellite or emergency connectivity deserves even greater caution. Unless Samsung announces regional support and carrier availability, it would be premature to promise it to Canadian buyers.

The battery could be one of the most meaningful upgrades if the regulatory information translates directly into the retail phone.

Camera changes are harder to judge.

Moving from four rear cameras to three would look like a reduction, but a new main sensor, stronger ultrawide hardware and better image processing could still produce a superior overall camera system. The key question will be how Samsung handles the useful 2x–4x range without a dedicated 3x telephoto.

The processor situation may matter particularly to Canadian enthusiasts because Samsung has historically varied chipsets between regions on some Galaxy generations.
